The Ranking Event
In 2023, I watched 52 Nicolas Cage films. Now, in 2024, I’m going to make them compete for my affections.
The 52 films will be split into 13 groups of 4.
The top two in each group alongside the six best third-placed teams will then enter the knock-out stage where the remaining 32 films will be reduced to just one.
Some top films didn’t make it, simply because I didn’t watch them this year, so Con Air is out, as is Cage’s Oscar-winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas. There’s no room for the madness of The Wicker Man, or the top box office ranking film National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets.
The Group Stage Draw
The draw for the first round was completed this morning. It was a seeded draw, with the top 13 films by box office put into separate groups.
Knockout Phase
Once the group stage is complete, the knock-out rounds look like this. You can use this chart to begin to plot your way through the tournament.
So, which film do you expect to come out on top? Any dark horses? Any groups that throw up problems for any of the seeded films?
